Cigar of the week. Rocky Patel Cigars - Twentieth Anniversary Robusto
This months new world cigar brand of the month is Rocky Patel Cigars, if you haven't read our post about the brand and it's history you can check it out HERE. Each week we focus on one of the cigars from the brand that we think is an exceptional example.
This week our cigar of the week is the Rocky Patel Twentieth Anniversary Robusto. This is the final cigar from Rocky Patel to close out this months new world cigar brand of the month. So we're going out in style! If you're celebrating 20 years in the cigar business you do it in style, and that's certainly what Rocky did here. Aesthetically stunning (like nearly all Rocky Patel Cigars) the Twentieth Anniversary has also rated highly with a 93 rating from Cigar Journal and a 90 rating from Cigar Aficionado.
First up, it's box pressed, and as your getting to know me and the kind of new world cigars I like, you will be realising I'm a sucker for box pressed cigars! This cigar has a great, almost rectangular press on it but doesn't suffer from uncomfortable hard edges like some extremely pressed cigars do. There are some boxes of cigars you open that just smack you between the eyes, the Rocky Patel Twentieth Anniversary do just that, visually and from the aroma!
Secondly, the blend. With 4 years in development, this blend combines fillers from Esteli, Jalapa, Nicaragua, Jamastran, and Honduras. And all of this is encompassed in an elegant Honduran wrapper. It really is a tour de force of tobaccos from some of the greatest cigar tobacco growing regions that go in to new world cigars.
Finally, flavours, This medium to full-bodied offering is brilliantly complex thanks to tobaccos aged up to 10 years! It has a number of flavours that include espresso, spice, chocolate, sweet cedar, pepper and leather. You will find this well-balanced treat hard to put down, as it remains true to character right down to the nub.
