Don Lucas Boutique Cigars
Boutique new world cigar producer Don Lucas Cigars is a gem, hidden close to one of the Dominican Republic's biggest cigar producing cities of La Romana where Tabacalera de Garcia Cigar- the largest hand rolled cigar factory in the world is located. Don Lucas Cigars are located in Bavaro, close to the tourist hot spot of Punta Cana. Founded in 1992 by a Belgian it has been at it's current Bavaro location since 1998. A beautifully small operation the focus is on value and quality. Production is on 4 rolling tables, each with a blender and torcedor, with each table averaging around 250 cigars a day output. The quality control and quality of tobacco used is second to none with their Dominican tobaccos sourced mostly from Navarrete, Villa Gonzalez, Cotui (still under development) and Tamboril - one of the most famous growing areas in the world.
Not only are some of the finest Dominican tobaccos used in production as in common in new world cigars, other tobaccos from around the world are used depending on the blend. The focus on quality also extends to the the aging of tobacco used in the cigar and the finished product. Depending on the blend and series Don Lucas use tobacco aged between 2 and 6 years on average, with some younger tobaccos added to give punch in the blend. Post production the milder classic line are aged in their humidors for a minimum of 75 days before release for sale while the 20th Anniversary and Family Reserve age for at least a year before being released!
